©Alternate COURSES creator, Christine, has over 20 years of teaching experience in the public and post-secondary school systems in BC. She holds a Bachelor of Science with a minor in Learning Disabilities, a Masters in Counselling Psychology, and she is also a Registered Clinical Counsellor. She currently works in an alternate school with at-risk youth who are struggling with mental health issues and learning difficulties. With the help of her daughter, they create courses that aim to support students and teachers.
When students are struggling with the complexities of life outside of school, it can be tricky to engage them in a multitude of learning opportunities while at the same time trying to create an environment that builds trust and connection. ©Alternate COURSES was created in order to help teachers meet curriculum outcomes with no-prep, independent student work packages without the need for textbooks. Having the work already done, the teacher is now able to focus more of their time on developing the relationship-based classroom environment necessary for all students to thrive.
